Anderson Cooper

Though born the son of heiress Gloria Vanderbilt, her lavish lifestyle ate away at her bank account, leaving Cooper with a fraction of the original family fortune. He grew his 50 million net worth from his efforts. Cooper started his career in 1989 after graduating from Yale, working for Channel One traveling the world, and shooting footage of war-torn regions. His journalist career climbed steadily ultimately landing him at CNN. 

Cooper has won seven Emmie awards and three Peabody awards for journalism. He came out as gay in 2012 to become the most prominent openly gay journalist on American television. 

Despite his privileged upbringing, Cooper faced heartbreak with the death of his father when Cooper was 12, and his brother 10 years later. His most significant love relationship with Benjamin Mailani ended after nine years, though they co-parent Cooper’s two sons together.
