Meryl Streep

Receiving 21 Academy and 31 Golden Globe nominations, winning three and eight respectively, Meryl Streep won more nominations and competitive wins than any other actor. The daughter of a pharmaceutical company executive and a graphic artist, Streep's middle-class upbringing didn't shine a spotlight on her, marking her as one of the greatest actors of her generation.

In college, she focused on drama and soon became the star of the drama department. After graduation, she enrolled in Yale Drama school for three years, where she performed no less than 40 roles. After graduating from Yale with an MFA, she moved to New York City where stage roles and small parts in famous films jettisoned her into leading roles that came in succession from 1978 onward. Each decade brought this versatile actor new award-winning roles, from drama to comedy.
